Pitchfucked: Stand-up comedy is the same as music, only more acoustic

25 01 2010

Oh, Pitchfork. Your albums reviews are shining rainclouds in a world filled with rainbows and sunshine. You hate everything music has to offer, which seems strange considering you are a music publication, but that is just one of the many ways you Pitchfork people prove your superior wits to us lowly mouth-breathers. So let’s read one of your reviews together, so we can all be as educated on what should be considered good and what should be thrown into the Hudson Bay. Today’s album? Aziz Ansari’s Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening, brought to us by writer Ian Cohen, who rated the album an 8.1. [note: Pitchfork, R&R] Read the rest of this entry »

R&R’s got some New Year’s Resolutions …

31 12 2009

… but they aren’t for me. Oh no, I like myself just the way I am. Sedated by society through sports,  video games, movies, graphic novels, the interwebs (ZOMG LOL that video of that person getting violently injured is hilar! The People v. Shawn Carter in the matter of Gross Hypocrisy of the First Degree

10 11 2009

In the musical justice system, the people and the musicians are represented by two separate, yet equally important groups — The District Attorneys who investigate the crime, and the defense who claims it’s all a bunch of bullshit. These are their stories. Read the rest of this entry »

Dear Rappers: Get some friends

6 11 2009

I was flipping through my Jay-Z playlist this afternoon in the LeSabre, and for some reason a thought popped into my head that I couldn’t shake: Jay-Z doesn’t do his choruses. This isn’t to say that he never sings/raps his chorus, but that he usually lets someone else to the heavy lifting. Read the rest of this entry »

Rhyme&Review: Our Process

28 10 2009

We often wonder at R&R what the point of reviewing art in any form is. Wouldn’t it just make more sense for a person to experience the product and form their opinion? Absolutely. Nobody that reads our reviews should ever take our word for it. Go and find out for yourself, lazy bum.

However, that doesn’t mean reviews can’t be helpful and — here’s the part where we boost our ego — necessary. Context. Our reviews are aimed at giving our reader context. Because without context, information is downright useless. Read the rest of this entry »
