Ice T: A study in gentility

9 04 2010

And we’re back up. R&R isn’t a huge fan of tweeting, but on occasion the nearly useless social media has its moments. Like this one, which could possibly start the most lopsided rap-rivalry since Ja Rule took shots at Eminem. If there is a god, this will escalate, possibly climaxing with Aimee Man in a chalk outline. Who shot ya?

Via The Village Voice:

When I wake up, I like to start the day off with a hot bowl full of scrumptious, and nutritious, dicks. Yum.

No. Not now. Not ever.

19 01 2010

I was browsing the fashion blog High Snobiety when I came across this abortion of sunwear, made by Linda Farrow Vintage. The post includes not only these faux-football visors but another pair similar to the Lady Gaga TV shades, shades which serve two purposes — to cause bodily injury to any idiot wearing sunglasses you can’t see out of, and to make said idiot look even more idiotic. Yele: A Haitian Requiem

A terrible thing happened today to a place that I love. It’s a place you should love too, for good reason. Read the rest of this entry »

The odds on America’s next top rapper

11 01 2010

Ah, prognostication. It’s as American as subtle racism and reality TV. Everybody does it, and since everybody does it, it must be important, right? Exactly. And American’s are free to predict anything about anything. That’s the beauty of prognostication, it’s ubiquity, it’s omnipresence. It’s here, it’s there, but right now, it’s going to be in hip-hop.

And we’re going to use it to answer this question: Who’s the next rapper that’ll take over that coveted “Number one spot” that Ludacris rapped about only a few years ago?

You’ve had your Jay-Z’s, your Kanye’s, your Lil Wayne’s, even your T.I.’s, Ludacris’ and 50 Cent’s. But  this is 2010, it’s time for a changing of the guard. Who are hip-hop’s next heavyweights, and who will end end being the best of these new fighters? Read the rest of this entry »

Lady Gaga: singers get remembered, but legends never die

8 01 2010

Somebody who knows the cousin of the aunt of the sister of the manager of Lady Gaga needs to make sure she reads this post, because I am about to make her the most famous pop star ever. Bigger than Michael Jackson. Bigger than Madonna. Bigger than The Beatles. Well, maybe not. But I will make you. I will effing make you. Read the rest of this entry »

R&R’s got some New Year’s Resolutions …

31 12 2009

… but they aren’t for me. Oh no, I like myself just the way I am. Sedated by society through sports,  video games, movies, graphic novels, the interwebs (ZOMG LOL that video of that person getting violently injured is hilar! ROFLcopter!), an occasional book or two and of course, the awful, soul-sucking grind of a 9-5. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t thought up resolutions for the rest of you people, so strap up, strap on and strap in, because it’s time to take a good look in the mirror and start this new decade off the right way. The last Christmas playlist you will ever need again

21 12 2009

Just kidding. Christmas music is far too pervasive and subjective to make a definitive Christmas playlist. In fact, that’s why this post is coming to you so late, because I have toiled away with trying to figure out how to give it to you. But that doesn’t mean I can’t give you a few tips and pointers along the way. All Christmas music is not made equal, and if you’re going to be in charge of the holiday tunes for friends and family, then you’ve got to have at least some of your bases covered.
